We are a Swansea-based renewable energy company specialising in bespoke solar PV and battery storage solutions. Founded by chartered engineer Ian Mach, the business designs and installs high-performing systems tailored to each customer’s property, budget and energy needs. Ulex Energy is MCS certified, carries out all installations using its own team, and provides a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee on workmanship.

Our Story
Ian is a Chartered Engineer and qualified electrician with a strong background in both engineering consultancy and renewable energy installation. He began his career at Arup in Cardiff, where he worked as a consultant on a range of engineering projects.
He later worked within the installation division of a solar company supporting projects delivered by Project Solar, gaining hands-on experience installing solar energy systems across the UK. During this time, Ian recognised a recurring issue within the industry: many systems were not designed to fully optimise the potential of each property, often relying on standardised solutions that failed to meet homeowners’ specific needs. He also observed that installations were frequently carried out by travelling subcontractors, which could compromise consistency and overall quality.
Driven by a commitment to doing things properly, Ian founded Ulex Energy. From its base in Swansea, the company specialises in bespoke solar and battery solutions, offering honest, transparent advice and delivering high-quality workmanship through a dedicated, locally based installation team in South Wales.

All of the work we undertake is fully insured to the value of £2,000,000 for Public Liability by Kingsbridge, including £250,000 for any design advice provided, giving you peace of mind.

All of the work we carry out under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) is fully insurance backed by IWA for 10 years.
